ABOUT OLDMASTERS MILLWORK & DETAILS
CUSTOM MILLWORK DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME
Why should you choose Oldmasters Millwork & Details for YOUR next high-end residential or commercial project?
Excellent question!

Here in Georgia, we have a long history of great storytelling. But I’ll be honest…
I’m more of a “doer” myself. Preferring to work with slabs and sticks of beautiful wood species, instead of working with words.

But, I’ve always enjoyed listening to great stories and I hope to inspire a few stories of my own someday.
So, I’ll try my hand here at telling you a little about our company and our mission to help you make every one of your building projects “story-worthy” themselves.
Right: Owner/Founder, Fred Purmort receiving 1st place in the Nautilus Design Competition for furniture design, sponsored by the Institute for Classical Architects, of which Purmort is a proud 16 year member.
Here's how Oldmasters Millwork & Details can help you:
Oldmasters Millwork & Details, LLC is the only millwork supplier in the Southeast who can get you the full millwork package without the typical headaches that come with the job. That means you get fast production and delivery of your millwork.

Your project’s millwork shop drawings will include full-size sections and details to make sure everyone knows exactly what the final piece will look like. No surprises at install time. And your project’s most complex pieces are engineered to make sure they work perfectly and look beautiful.

And we’ll work side-by-side with you until it’s done right.
No other millwork supplier provides all these benefits the way we do.
You get more than just a millwork supplier:
Do you know the most common questions my clients ask?

“How fast can I get it, but still get the high-quality my clients require?”
“Can you engineer this to make it work?”

I’ve been in the business since 1990 and am fully aware of the increasingly tighter timelines your projects require. Without sacrificing the high-quality your discerning customers expect.
And I make every effort to make sure you meet your deadlines, with beautiful millwork that works right the first time.
What a lot of folks don’t know is I actually have a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
What’s that mean for you?
It means you’ll get someone who excels at:
-
Solving your problems and project challenges.
-
Taking on complex mechanical challenges, like the reproduction I did for a client of the Biltmore Estate’s spiral staircase.
-
Precision and attention to details
-
1/64 of an inch per riser on a staircase can throw you way off by the top of the flight. Not gonna’ happen in my house!
-
Making that wood-paneled room go without a hitch
-
By “working in.” This means I start with the architect’s elevations of the room and make sure they work on the final installation.
-
Working with the architects and the builder to solve any problems in the shop detailing phase, so the field installation goes without a hitch.
When I graduated in 1998, I actually turned down an offer from Lockheed Martin to work on the F-22 Raptor program. I did it to stay on with my mentor, Jim Girdler, to continue engineering and detailing beautiful, complex millwork.

Was it the right decision?
Who knows? But I’ve always loved what I do. And it’s one of the biggest values you’ll get by working with me that you won’t find anywhere else...
READY TO GET STARTED ON YOUR OWN PROJECT?
Why are we called "Oldmasters" Millwork & Details?
When I started this business to serve the building industry here in the Southeast, I knew I had to pay tribute to the two “old masters” who put me on this path:

My father, Fred Purmort Sr. and my mentor, Jim Girdler.

These two men helped foster my love of woodworking, introduced me to the millwork business, and taught me to appreciate and actively participate in local preservation efforts.

So, the name and spirit of this company is my tribute to their memory and for all they’ve meant to me and my life. And my promise to you is I’ll approach your project with the same dedication, hard work, and love these old masters would have put into it.
